Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church began in 1955 when Reverend Arthur Roberts, his wife Leatrice, and Sister P.B. Espinoza organized New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Reno, Nevada. From its humble beginnings at 339 North Sierra Street, the church continued to grow through the faithful leadership of pastors who followed, including Reverends B.I. Skittern, S.E. Harris, W.M. Wright, H. Griffin, Johnny T. Collins Sr., Glenn E. Taylor Sr., James Cox Jr., Onie Cooper, Ozzie Joseph, and Irving Gray. Through the years, the congregation acquired its home at 1810 Helena Avenue, expanded its facilities, strengthened Christian education, and increased its presence throughout the Reno community. In 1979, under Reverend Johnny T. Collins Sr., the church was renamed Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, reflecting its growing ministry and vision.

On January 16, 2011, Reverend William B. Lyons Jr. was called to serve as pastor, continuing the legacy of faith while leading Greater New Hope into a new season of ministry and community engagement. Today, Greater New Hope is committed to being a church where people from all walks of life can experience the love of Christ, grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and serve the community. From community outreach and partnerships to worship, discipleship, and fellowship, we continue moving forward in faith with one mission: Exalting the Savior, Equipping the Saints, and Evangelizing the Lost. Our history reminds us where God has brought us from, and our faith keeps us looking forward to where He is leading us next.
